The course is the first in a sequence of two that address a wide range of topics related to sustainable design and development. The implementation of sustainable design ideas into practice is the main objective of this course. The course is structured around three distinct sections that run in parallel throughout the semester. The first section covers topics of general theoretical order as well as specialized topics related to the qualitative approach to sustainable design. The second section covers quantitative topics related to sustainable design decisions (solar physics, thermodynamic behavior of materials, airflow modeling through building, energy simulation models, etc) and the third section involves design exercises and projects where both quantitative and qualitative sustainable design tools need to be considered.
