The course offers an introduction in world architecture of the distant to the recent past to today. Architecture is approached form a history-by-theory and theory-by-history point of view that helps students make sense of its chaotic multitude through time. The course perceives architecture as part of human civilisation, but is quite eclectic since it refers to just a few of architectural achievements. It focuses on issues such as: “is concept and form or matter the most important ‘component’ of architecture?”, “how close is architecture to spectacle?”, “is less really more?”. Thus, the course is meant as an introduction for freshmen students of architecture who want to get a grasp of what architecture is–and has been–really about.
