Io Carydi is a registered architect and urban designer holding a PhD from the NTUA School of Architecture (2015), an MA with Distinction on Landscape Urbanism from the Architectural Association of London (2006) and a Diploma of Architecture from NTUA (2004). She worked as an Associate for Hargreaves Associates in London (2008 – 2011) where she engaged in complex urban design projects such as the new Exeter Forum (UK), the London Olympic Park and The Campus of Montpellier in France. The firm of Io Carydi later teamed with Hargreaves Associates in New York and San Francisco in several urban design projects including the flagship project for Zaryadye Park in Moscow. Io Carydi’s profile combines academic research, teaching and professional practice with a design portfolio of award winning projects and international collaborations dealing with a variety of scales from interior architecture to large-scale landscape design in public / private developments.

Her design research within landscape and urbanism explores perspectives for the integration of environmental systems into the urban morphology. Within this scope, Io has developed a critical insight for the spatial issues relating to the technological modernization of infrastructures and the socio-ecological implications of this change. In this context, her research brings together interrelated fields of ecology, landscape architecture and planning. Her research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals (such as diSP ETH, TRIALOG, LAND MDPI) and conference proceedings. Her work has been exhibited in Greece and abroad. The firm of Io Carydi has been nominated with several design awards in international competitions and has twice received 1st prize awards for public space design interventions.
